Fun With Nostalgia

SCHOOL – FUN MEMORIES

Fun memories about school in the old days was based on very simple things compared to today. Simple pleasures were exciting times for students. They loved to do things like go on school picnics where they would have races and win ribbons. Races were things like the three-legged race and the wheel barrel race. Some also involved the Merry Go Round or Ferris Wheel rides.
some very practical things were learned at school.Boys would take Manual TrIning and girls would take Hone Economics. Boys might make a lamp to take home. Girls might make preserves to take home.

Sports at school for many was a highlight of their school days. It could involve any sport that you might be interested in or good at. Some had great memories of championships.

Also, school dances were fun. It might have been a regular school dance or a special prom night. It was. chance to get dressed up. It was were many met their long term partners.
How did they get to school? Only teachers drove cars to school. Students would mainly walk. Many have great memories of walking to school with friends. They couldn’t stay for lunch. There was no cafeteria. So they would walk back and forth over lunch and hVe very little time for lunch depending on where they lived. And recess was another opportunity to hang out with your friends or make new ones.

while school was strict and very structured so many fun memories were remembered. It was a nostalgic time.

LOOK AND SEE

The Strap

The Strap measured approximately 15 inches long. It was stiff and hard. It did hurt

It reminds us of a rhyme mentioned by an older lady. She said that there were teachers they liked and ones they didn’t like, like old Mrs McGeach.

Old Mrs McGeach

The red headed teach

She went to church on Sunday

To give her strength

To lick the kids on Monday

THE ONE AND TWO ROOM SCHOOL

Many people got their education in either a one or two room school. Amazingly in a one room school, one teacher taught all grades from 1 to 8. Each grade might be a row. Each was given a task while one row was being taught something new. Teacher organization had to be exceptional.
in the two room school, one teacher would teach grades 1 to 3. The other teacher would teach grades 4 to 8. The same procedures were used as in the one room school.
